This week I decided to do my take on the #GettyMuseumChallenge (if you haven’t seen it, check out the hashtag – there’s some excellent interpretations) and recreate seven photographs by great photographers.
In the end I found the exercise a little bit frustrating at times. I kept choosing photograph of women with completely different body shapes to mine and then wondering why I couldn’t do accurate interpretations. In the end I relaxed into an ‘influenced by…’ mindset rather than true recreations.
It was Exhibit A’s turn to choose my Sinful Sunday this week and he opted for this one. The original shot, Nude by Edward Weston, features in just about every book of photography nudes I own and constantly crops up in articles. I think it’s a great photo, but reading this week that “the image has since been declared a Modernist paragon for its extraordinary investigation of the human body” just makes me do a massive eye roll at the waffly bollocks of art commentary!
I really adore this picture of you. It is all sorts of wonderful and beautiful. I’m always so impressed be the images you produce and the beauty of your body.
Oh wow, this is amazing and turned out so well. I like that you added your own element to it with the rays of light, which make the picture even more enticing. What a wonderful shot
As someone who often does similar I like the “inspired by” thought better than trying to copy as we are all so physically different. And don’t all have lovely light studios to work it. The interesting pattern of light in yours adds much more appeal to the image and even depth than the original. Keep going with the inspiration … hopefully some will rub off this way.

Gosh, this is beautiful… softer and more touchable than the original.

This is really fabulous!
I need to take your ‘inspired by’ as inspiration. I always struggle because I don’t bend like someone else as a negative rather than seeing myself as unique.
As for your take, it’s beautiful, I love the sunlight falling on your skin.
Wonderful. I like the stripes of light, very well-captured.
I have looked through that hashtag and there are SO many brilliant images. Also I have been there in the, trying to recreate an image where my body type is wrong, it is a very frustrating.
I love your version here though, I find the pattern of light on your really striking and it makes it a much more interesting image than the original
