Friends. Photography. Adventure.

What a Lovely Pair…

FullSizeRenderI wrote earlier in the week about the Canvas Café in East London, which is based around the concept of body positivity and happiness. There’s a canvas sofa on which you are invited to write a sentence about your body. I spotted this. No, not ‘my nobs to big’ (I only spotted that as I was about to hit publish!), but ‘I like my body more since I started running.’
Oh yes. That. A hundred times over. What started as a fundraising endeavour in memory of friends and family lost to pancreatic cancer, and a bit of a ballsy ‘I’m going to do this because nobody really thinks I can’, actually ended up being something which caused a pretty fundamental shift in how I feel about myself and also what I know I can achieve if I put my mind to it. I have significantly more respect for the mechanics of my body now but I also always feel really gorgeous when I run, which is really bloody daft because I’ve seen the race day photos and caught my reflection in shop windows! And who knew how horny running makes you? Coming back from a run is pretty much the only time I’d be quite happy to have a bloke at home.
I retired my first ever pair of running shoes a couple of weeks ago. They had more than 500 miles in them and had carried me through a marathon and a half marathon. They’d pounded pavements in England, Wales, Nigeria, Indonesia, Turkey, Poland, and Germany. I’ll miss them. The new ones have a hard act to follow, but they are beautiful – I am a little bit in love with them already…

  1. You have the most gorgeous legs! The composition if this photo is fantastic. I especially love the railing parallel to your extended muscles. And how the greenish steps in the background make your hot shoes pop. Really fab!
Your thoughts on running inspire me. I’ve run in the past, always toward a goal, a 5k or 10k for charity. I want to love it, I want to capture those high feelings people always talk about, but so far I haven’t quite. Maybe this time 🙂

  2. just keep scratching my head, what is better the image or the story behind it? i love this pic, what colorful trainers like butterflies on your feet!!!

  3. Wow, what a pair of legs. I am not a runner, my body just does not cope well with it but I can walk for absolutely miles and am happy to do so. I love my trainers as well, and just retired my old ones but luckily I like the new ones better than the out going ones…. maybe I will take a picture at some point and celebrate them like you have

  5. Love the words and the photograph. Great pair of legs (muscle definition is awesome!) and I LOVE your new trainers. Happy running 🙂

  6. Lovely legs, and a great way to show them off.

  7. Nice gams. (That’s what they used to call legs right?)

  8. Love the shoes and love the legs!
I wish I could run. I have tried, tried really hard, but I cannot run. My body just cannot handle the run, but it can handle walking, which is what I do 🙂

  11. I always want the pretty shoes…but they never make the shoes I need for my in-steps in these cool colors. I’m jealous…of the shoes AND the legs.

  12. Great shot. Looks like something out of iD or Dazed & Confused magazine. I can relate to the running thing, too. I feel invincible and strong (and knackered!) after a run – it’s quite addictive. I feel more connected with my body, too, which feels wonderful. And my sweaty, ruddy face has a certain glow about it on my return. It’s free. You can do it anywhere. It has a meditative quality about it. Brilliant sport for body positivity! PS: and I’ve never been especially sporty!

  13. You have gorgeous legs. I love running too but my knees don’t like anything further than 5 or 10k but I agree, I’m incredibly horny when I get back from the gym.

  14. Oh my goodness. I’d love to be following those legs.

  15. I love those rainbow running shows!
